ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
The goal of this workshop is to guide the participant in the development of the indispensable, practical skills that are particular to the consecutive, simultaneous and sight interpretation modes. The workshop is a collaborative effort with Widener University School of Law, the First Judicial District (the Philadelphia Courts) and the Administrative Office of the Pennsylvania Courts (AOPC). In support of the collaboration are the Philadelphia companies which offer interpretation and translation services, Quantum, Inc., EZ Language, Language Services Associates, as well as the Delaware Valley Translators Association and the Pennsylvania Interbranch Commission for Gender, Racial and Ethnic Fairness. This workshop will ensure equal access to justice for litigants with limited English proficiency, (LEPs), and provide institutional training for spoken language interpreters with regard to court proceedings in the Khmer, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish and Vietnamese languages.
